Jane Bettenay - Director and Head Guide of Ulinda Safari Trails was the first woman in Zimbabwe to obtain the world renowned Zimbabwe Professional Guides Licence, in 1989. Jane came to Zimbabwe from Australia on a photographic holiday, in 1981. She loved it so much she emigrated later that year. She started guiding on her own photographic safaris in Zimbabwe in 1995 and opened a company in Botswana in 1997. Jane is an avid and award winning wildlife photographer.
She attained her Full Botswana Guides Licence in 1995.
All photos used on this site were taken on safari with Jane, who will endeavour to give you the best photographic opportunities possible. She is knowledgeable on the flora and fauna of areas visited and can tell you many fascinating facts on the species encountered in the course of your safari.
Vehicle's
Mercedes-Benz - Unimog - Used for most Safaris, is fitted with a 60l Engel Freezer and a 380l water tank. Toyota Landcruisers, open sided or with roof top hatches, with 40l Engel freezer fitted will also be used, depending on road conditions, number of clients and itinerary. All vehicles carry a maximum of 7 clients on the safari. We can offer large groups (up to 12 people together, or 18 as a special request) a safari, depending on site availability. The HATAB sites have restrictions on number of people using sites in each area, and have to be applied for well in advance.
Our safaris are non-participation, as we believe your time should be spent game watching rather than setting up camp. We supply 6 man heavy duty canvas dome tents (sleeping 2), good stretcher beds if required, bedrolls that have a good mattress, sheets, pillow, blanket and duvet, with 4 man dome tents available for singles.
Depending on your interests, we do specialised Bird Watching Safaris, Game Viewing Safaris, Photographic Safaris and Professional Photographic Safari's, where there is a maximum of only 4 clients. The Vehicles each have a comprehensive reference library that clients are welcome to peruse, with books on Birds, Mammals, Snakes and Reptiles, Trees, Shrubs and Botswana in general.
Ulinda Safari Trails - Botswana
Ulinda Safari Trails specialises in small (up to 7) safari parties and believe our clients get the best of both worlds - a small personalised group with a minimum of staff yet the comfort of a fully backed up safari.
Itineraries are customised to suit the needs and interests of individual groups, seasons and local conditions and can include Chobe, Savuti, The Panhandle, Mababe and Khwai Community Concession areas (where walking and night drives are allowed), Moremi Game Reserve, The Okavango Delta, Nxai Pan, Makgadikgadi Pans and the Northern Central Kalahari Game Reserve.
We also do short safaris of 2 days or more to Moremi, Savuti, Makgadikgadi Pans, Central Kalahari Game Reserve and Nxai Pan, starting from and returing to Maun.
Safaris can start and/or finish in Kasane (transfers from Livingstone in Zambia, and Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe are easily arranged) and Maun.
