General Notes:

White Fronted Bee EaterItineraries are very flexible, and can combine the following Parks and Game Reserves :
Northern Central Kalahari Game Reserve
Makgadikgadi Pans NP and the Pans themselves.
Nxai Pan NP (including Baines Baobabs)Khwai Community area - next to Moremi Game Reserve, there are 3 community camp sites where we can stay, these are completely endeveloped like a HATAB site. In addition to the normal game drives we are allowed out of the vehicle and can do limited walking and night drives.
Moremi Game Reserve ( including Khwai, Xakanaxa , Bodumatau, Xini Lagoon, 4th and 3rd Bridge Area's)
Chobe NP (including Chobe River, Nogatsaa, Tchinga, and Savuti)
Tsodilo Hills (recommend fly in day trip)
Panhandle - Shakawe and Seronga area's
Nogatsaa/Tchinga area's - this area of Chobe National Park is seldom visited by tourists. There are no public campsites in operation only HATAB members can stay. Animals such as Eland and Oribi are often seen here in addition to the normal Chobe game. We can tie in this part of the park with a two night stay en route from Chobe River to Savuti during the dry season, as the black cotton soils make it impassable during the rains.

EQUIPMENT SUPPLIED

Four Man canvas dome tents are used (3 metres x 3 metres x 2.25 metres high), sleeping two people each or 3 in case of a couple and a child. We also have 4 man dome tents for use for single travellers.

Good camp stretchers if requested, bedrolls with mattresses, pillow, sleeping bag, small table and a towel are supplied, and we do all the work for you.

Clients are advised to bring their own soap, toiletries, , sunscreen, binoculars, camera with zoom lens, films and a hat If clients bring a video camera it is suggested that they also bring a 12 volt charger so batteries can be charged by the Unimog.

A shower is available with hot, warm or cold water depending on the weather, and a toilet is set up for each six people.

We also supply chairs and tables for general dining and carry large quantities of food, both dry and fresh. The Unimog is fitted with a 60 litre deep freeze, which enables us to keep perishables frozen for days at a time, and in addition to this we carry several cold boxes. The Unimog is also fitted with a 120 litre water tank, and the landcruisers are fitted with 40l engel freezers. We can charge digital equipment as we have inverters that work off 12v

FOOD AND DRINKS

All meals are prepared and supplied by us. Food is simple, wholesome and tasty. Generally the day starts with toast, muesli, yoghurt, tea and coffee, although if a long drive is in the offing a full English breakfast complete with Bacon, egg and sausage may be served. Depending on the itinerary lunch is usually eaten along the way or at the camp site, and consists of cold meats, salad, tuna, crispbread, wholemeal rolls, cheese etc. Simple snacks such as potato chips, fresh popcorn and nuts are served with drinks in the evening. Dinner is generally something like a stew, pasta or rice dish (meat or chicken) with fresh salad and vegetables. Vegetarians are catered for on request.

A reasonable quantity of juices, softdrinks, beer and local wines are supplied. Drinking water is of course unlimited. Local spirits can be requested prior to the trip and will be catered for wherever possible.

AGE RESTRICTIONS

Minimum age is 12 years unless by prior arrangement or on a private Safari (minimum of 6). Clients must have an adventurous spirit, as often at night the sounds of Lion and Hyena can be heard close at hand, rather unnerving for the faint hearted.

No maximum age has been set, but reasonable health and fitness is essential. It must be noted that September, October and November can be very hot (up to 40C) and humid.

ROUTINE

Clients are normally met in Maun, Kasane or transferred from Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe or Livingstone in Zambia and driven to the first place on their itinerary. We normally drive to our camping spot first, where the vehicle(s) is unloaded of camping equipment and left with the camp staff to erect. We then game drive for the rest of the afternoon, before returning to our camp generally just after sunset, for snacks and sundowners around the camp fire.

In the morning, clients are woken at first light, and served with tea, coffee, muesli and toast, before departing on the early morning game drive. Flexibility is the key to be able to take advantage of game viewing possibilities it is essential to be able to adapt. Therefore a cold lunch is generally carried on the vehicle and eaten at a waterhole, along the road or back at camp as the case may be. If we have returned to the camp for lunch, there is usually a siesta/rest period, followed by an afternoon game drive, returning to camp after sunset for snacks and sundowners.
